CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning in the shooting death of District Judge Kevin Mullins last week.

Stines entered his plea via Zoom from the Leslie County Detention Center, where he has been housed, since being arrested on a murder charge, following the death of Mullins, in the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg Thursday.

Circuit Judge Rupert Wilhoit accepted the plea from the bench in the Carter County Courthouse just after 10:00 am.

Wilhoit set Stine’s preliminary hearing for Tuesday, October 2, at the Morgan County Courthouse in West Liberty, Ky.
